Medical evidence required for Blue Badge applications and renewals

When applying or reapplying for a Blue Badge, you must provide medical evidence to support your application which should include:

  • evidence demonstrating that the condition impacting your mobility is likely to last for at least the next 3 years
  • evidence to confirm the impact to your mobility is regular and significant
  • evidence of any coping strategies you are using and how effective they are

Medical evidence we will consider

Some examples of evidence that we will consider include:

  • patient summary or summary care records
  • letter confirming ongoing treatments, clinics or referrals
  • evidence of any medications you take for your disability
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP) decision letters
  • education, health and care plans
  • social housing letters or assessments from another team at the council
  • care plans
  • evidence that your condition has progressed or advanced over time
  • evidence of any benefits you receive
  • letters from professionals involved in your care

When you do not need to provide evidence

We do not need the above evidence if you are applying for a Blue Badge because you:

  • are severely sight impaired
  • receive 8 or more points for Moving Around within your PIP award
  • receive exactly 10 points for Planning and Following Journeys within your PIP award
  • receive the highest rate of DLA for help with getting around
  • have been awarded a lump sum benefit at tariffs 1-8 of the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme and have a certification of having a permanent and substantial difficulty which causes inability to walk, or very considerable difficulty in walking
  • receive a War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement paid with a War Disability Pension
