Guidance for applicants

We will not issue a temporary plate where the licence holder has not reported any damage or collision involving the vehicle and will not process a temporary vehicle without a fully completed application form and V5.

Hackney carriage temporary licence vehicles must be white.

Private hire temporary vehicles must not be white, they can be any other colour than white.

Check the approved vehicles list initially to see if the vehicle is suitable. Once we have confirmed the vehicle is suitable and taken payment, you must submit the MOT and insurance certificate.

Once all documentation has been approved, you will be contacted to attend the Bournemouth Civic Offices where a temporary plate will be provided to you in exchange for the plate from your existing vehicle, if you do not bring this plate we will not issue a temporary plate to you.

The Temporary Licence is valid for 28 days.

After 28 days you must return the temporary plate to obtain your vehicle plate back.

If you need the temporary plate for longer than 28 days you must notify us and request an extension you will have to pay for a further 28 days.
