Who can apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant

To apply for a grant, you or someone else living in the house must:

  • be disabled
  • intend to live in the property during the grant period (usually 5 years but this can be shorter, for example, if the person is receiving end-of-life support)

The person who submits the application must be either the:

  • homeowner
  • tenant - if you rent from a private landlord or housing association, you will need their permission
  • landlord applying on behalf of the tenant

We must be happy that the work is:

  • necessary and appropriate to meet the person’s needs
  • reasonable and can be done, depending on the age and condition of the property

If the property cannot be adapted, the grant may have to be refused.
