Admissions arrangements must explain how to apply for a school place and, once an application is received, how it will be processed. The policy must contain clear oversubscription criteria should there be more applications for places than there are places available.
The number of places available at a normal point of entry for each school – the published admission number – must also be set and included in the policy.
When schools make changes to their admission arrangements, they must publicly consult on the changes before determining them.
BCP Council community and voluntary controlled (VC) schools
We’ve created one single admissions policy for our community and voluntary controlled schools.
We’re the admission authority for:
- Burton C of E Primary School
- Mudeford Community Infants School
- Mudeford Junior School
- Somerford Primary School
We are proposing to reduce the Published Admission Number (PAN) at Burton from 45 to 30. Forecasts indicate that from September 2027, no more than 30 places will be required at the school. This reflects a broader trend of fewer families seeking school places in the area due to falling birth rates. If needed, the PAN can be increased again in the future if local demand for school places rises again.
We have also further clarified the definition for priority in the oversubscription criteria for children of staff. This applies to all 4 schools that we are the admission authority for.
We’re consulting from Monday 10 November 2025 until Monday 22 December 2025.
Comments or objections can be emailed to school.admissions@bcpcouncil.gov.uk.
