Footway maintenance schemes

The programme of works is subject to constant review depending on out turn costs of individual schemes, changing priorities indicated by routine highway inspections, or particularly adverse deterioration due to factors such as severe winter weather and flooding.

All dates are provisional and subject to change.

Holdenhurst Road improvements

In October 2023, we started work to the footways in Holdenhurst Road from Wellington Road to just past Buchanan Avenue. This work is currently being completed. Resurfacing works to the adjacent carriageway are currently delayed while we deal with an issue with shallow buried services.

Thames Street repairs (junction at the Quay)

Repair works to the worn out flagstone area at the junction with The Quay are due to commence middle of November 2025. The work will include replacement of the damaged stone with new and installation of a tactile crossing to improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians. Due to the nature of the work this will require the end of Thames Street to be closed for up to 3 weeks. Further details will be made known shortly.

Small footway schemes

The refurbishment or slurry sealing (pot hole prevention) of footway only.

Works are carried out with minimal disruption wherever possible unless the site requires a road closure. This is a surface treatment consisting of a thin coat of material applied over the existing footway in order to keep it safe and extend its service life. The material has an initial granular finish but smooths out over time and any marks or scratches will disappear.
