Apply for an access protection marking

You can apply for an access protection marking (APM) in front of your driveway if it already has a dropped kerb.

APMs are not legally enforceable but will deter other motorists from parking in front of your dropped kerb.

We paint the APM along the length of the dropped kerb, next to the driveway. This includes the tapers on both sides. Our decision on the size of the marking is final.

APM installation depends on the local road conditions and may not always be possible.

Make sure you read the terms and conditions before applying.

How to apply

You can apply for an APM online. You will need to provide:

  • proof of residency
  • evidence that you are the landlord or managing agent if you are not a resident
  • £265 fee in full

If your property has 2 access points you can submit 1 application to cover both.

For no extra cost we can cover 2 access points providing they are immediately next to each other and share a single dropped kerb. If you have your neighbour's consent, this can include their dropped kerb.

If you share the costs of 1 application with a neighbour, we still need a single payment in full. It is your responsibility to claim any money owed from your neighbour.

We group and complete requests in regular intervals throughout the year so there may be a delay between making your request and completion of the work.

Refresh an existing APM

If you already have an APM and it needs to be refreshed, send an email to apm@bcpcouncil.gov.uk.
