Overview

A friends group is a group of people who volunteer their time to help make their local park or green space better for everyone, this can include:

  • gardening
  • growing food
  • planting trees
  • litter picking
  • protecting wildlife
  • running social and educational events
  • raising funds to improve facilities

Friends groups are a great way of staying connected to the local community, spending time with likeminded people and being involved in decision making for the development of your local area.

You can be involved as much or as little as you like, depending how much spare time you have.

You do not need any particular skills or experience to join a friends group.

Find a friends group

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole has lots of community-led groups who help to look after our green spaces.

These groups work alongside us to improve their local green spaces and meet the needs of the community. We can support your activities and agree a site pledge so you know what to expect from us.

You can check our volunteering map for existing friends groups in your area.

If you cannot find a friends group in the park or green space you're interested in, you can start a friends group.
