Useful information

At around 5.2ha, Branksome Dene Chine nature reserve is the largest semi-natural area in the Poole Bay Cliffs wildlife corridor.

The site is a Geological Site of Scientific Interest as it shows large exposures of river valley development.

Although much of the reserve’s shrub layer is dominated by dense stands of rhododendron and laurel, a variety of tree species and small areas of remnant heathland are visible.

Habitats

Narrow, steep-sided pine and deciduous wooded valleys with lowland heathland and cliff faces.

Dogs

Dogs must be on a short lead when livestock is near and during the bird breeding season from 1 March to 31 July. At other times dogs must be under close control.

Make sure you follow the rules in our nature reserves.
