From March to August, a dogs on lead season is in place for the heathland areas and nature reserves in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. This is a legal requirement under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. As a dog owner, you must take steps to limit any disturbance to protected wildlife in these areas.

These areas include:

  • Bourne Valley
  • Canford Heath
  • Corfe Hills Heathland
  • Ham Common
  • Hengistbury Head
  • Kinson Common
  • St Catherine's Hill
  • Talbot Heath
  • Turbary Common

You must keep your dogs on leads of no more than 2 metres where requested during this time and all year round if they are walking close to livestock.
