Food waste collections are expanding across the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) area this week, with all Poole homes and flats in Bournemouth joining the council’s weekly service from 6 April 2026.
As the new collections get underway, dedicated food waste lorries will begin appearing on local streets. More than 100,000 additional households in Poole and Bournemouth will now be able to recycle their food waste every week -— joining those in Bournemouth and Christchurch who already recycle their leftovers.
This rollout brings a single, consistent recycling service to residents across the BCP area. Wherever you live, the rules are the same — making recycling simpler, clearer and more convenient for everyone.
Food waste is collected every week by a separate lorry on the same day as your rubbish and recycling, making it easy for everyone to recycle as part of their daily routine.
Kate Langdown, Director of Environment said: “This rollout is a really positive step for our communities. Recycling food waste is one of the quickest, easiest habits residents can adopt — and even small amounts really add up.
“Most people want to do the right thing, and bringing everyone onto the same weekly food waste collection service makes it easier than ever for everyone to recycle their food waste and feel confident they’re making a positive impact.”
