You should report needles, medical sharps or other medical waste to us if it is on:
- public land (such as the seafront, parks or playgrounds)
- roads
- pavements
- cycle lanes
Do not touch or try to hide it and do not put it down a drain or bin.
When you make the report you will need to tell us:
- the location
- any additional information that can help us locate it
- your contact details if you want us to update you
You can also upload a picture.
If the hazard is on private property
We do not remove needles or any other medical waste from privately owned flats, houses or gardens.
Schools and nurseries
Report it to the premises staff immediately. Staff on site are trained to deal with medical waste safely.
Flats, houses or gardens
If you find any of these you should contact a private waste removal company. If you rent your home, your landlord may be able to help.
If you use medical sharps at home put them in a sealed sharps box, you can get these from your GP or pharmacy. Once full, return the box to your GP for safe disposal.
If you are unable to transport your sharps box to a surgery, you can arrange a collection from us.
