A Personal licence allows an individual to be a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) at a licensed premise that sells or supplies alcohol.

You can apply for a personal licence if you:

We can only accept applications from individuals who live within the BCP Council area. Before making your application, check your postcode to see which council you should apply to.

How to apply

The application must include:

Email the completed forms, documents and photos to licensing@bcpcouncil.gov.uk.

Licence Expiry Date

Since the 1 April 2015, personal licences are now granted indefinitely with no expiry date. If you hold a personal licence that has an expiry date this remains valid indefinitely and the expiry date should be disregarded. If you wish to update your licence to remove the expiry date, please see ‘How to update your Licence’.

How to update your licence

You need to notify us or any changes to your licence. 

To update the details on your licence such as a change of address or change of name, you will need to complete our update form, and pay the £10.50 fee.

When you apply to update your licence, If you:

  • have changed your name, we also need evidence of this such as a copy of your marriage certificate or the deed poll change.
  • look different to the original photograph on your card, you will also need to provide a current photograph
  • are unable to find your licence, email us at licensing@bcpcouncil.gov.uk

You can pay the £10.50 using our online payments system. When paying:

  1. Select Other BCP Payments.
  2. Select Licensing – Personal Licences.
  3. Enter your personal licence number as the reference.

Send the completed update form and any necessary supporting documents with proof of payment to licensing@bcpcouncil.gov.uk

When you've received your updated licence 

Once the updated licence have been received, you must destroy the old version including the badge and paper copy.
