- Anyone who lives, works or studies in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole may join the library to borrow books and other items and use the public PCs.
- Proof of address is required for full library membership. People with no fixed address can join without this.
- Children under 16 may join the library with the consent of their parent or guardian to borrow books and other items and use the public PCs. The parent or guardian is responsible for items borrowed by the child.
- Up to 20 items, in any combination of books, audiobooks, CDs or DVDs, may be borrowed at the same time.
- You are responsible for ensuring that all items borrowed are returned or renewed by the date given at the time of issue.
- Items can be renewed in person, by phone or online, up to 10 times, unless requested by another borrower.
- Items returned or renewed late will be subject to an overdue charge, unless on a children’s card. Please see our fees and charges page for more information.
- You may be charged replacement costs if borrowed items are lost, stolen or damaged.
- Customers who have charges of £10 or more on their account will not be able to borrow any item.
- All items can be returned to any BCP Library. Most items can be returned to any library within the LibrariesWest consortium. Exceptions include music sets, chamber music, and toys which must be returned to their home library.
- Customers can hold one library account only.
- Library cards are not transferrable and can only be used by the named person.
- Up to 2 hours per day may be booked on a public computer free of charge, dependant on demand.
- Use of Public IT equipment and WiFi in libraries is available in agreement with the Acceptable Use Policy.
- Breach of the Acceptable Use Policy may result in suspension or cancellation of access to public IT equipment.
- Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Library Service is part of the LibrariesWest consortium. Your borrower record will be held on a shared database which is accessible by staff in all authorities in the consortium and may also be accessed by the suppliers of our Library Management System. - All visitors to the library are expected to behave according to the library byelaws. If you do not, you may be stopped from using the library.
