Beryl e-scooter share

As part of a government backed trial, the Beryl e-scooter share scheme provides innovative, emission-free transport option for both residents and visitors to the area.

The trial will run until May 2026 and help the government’s research into the use of e-scooters, ultimately informing national policy.

For more information about the scheme, bays and availability of vehicles, visit the Beryl website.

The trial is for the use of Beryl rental e-scooters only, privately-owned e-scooters will remain illegal for use on all public roads.

Using the scooters

The rental scooters can be ridden on roads in Bournemouth and Poole as well as on the expanding network of signed cycle lanes and cycle/shared-use facilities.

E-scooters cannot be used on pavements or in pedestrian areas.

You can download the Beryl app free from the App Store for iOS, and the Google Play Store for Android.

E-scooters can be picked up and dropped off in marked Beryl Bays. Once finished, users must lock the scooter with the app and a chime from the scooter will register it as now locked.

You must be over 16 and hold a valid provisional or full UK driving licence which will be verified by Beryl before the e-scooter is hired. Riders are encouraged to wear a helmet.

If you park outside a Beryl Bay, a £5 parking charge will be applied.

Bikes are locked manually using the lever on the lock at the back wheel and scooters are locked using the app. This will end your ride.
