We believe that community involvement is essential in creating and delivering inclusive, accessible and safe sustainable communities.
On 13 May 2025, we adopted a new Statement of Community Involvement (SCI).

This replaces the 2020 adopted version.
The updated SCI sets out a clear and consistent approach to planning engagement with individuals, local communities, and stakeholders across a range of planning matters. It outlines how we will:
- assess and determine planning applications, ensuring meaningful community involvement in the process
- engage with residents and stakeholders in the preparation of Local Development Plans, Supplementary Planning Documents, and other planning policies
Planning policies play a vital role in shaping the future of Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole. This affects:
- where we live
- where we work
- where we shop
- where we spend our leisure time
- how we travel
- our environmental impact
As we make important decisions about development over the next 15 to 20 years, we want to ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to contribute. Likewise, it is essential that local communities are consulted on development proposals that directly affect their area.
We have prepared a privacy notice explaining how personal data will be used in our planning activities.
