Residents of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole can access a range of services across the area to keep them warm, fed and healthy this winter.
Cllr David Brown, BCP Council Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said: “The festive season is nearly here. Everyone is extremely busy but we want residents of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole to know help is available during the festive season and beyond to make winter more manageable.
“We have services to support residents financially with winter bills, to keep them fed and warm. We don’t want anyone to suffer alone so please reach out to these community schemes.”
Don’t get flu for Christmas
Flu cases are on the rise. And the best way to stay protected against the flu is by getting a flu vaccine. If you are eligible, you can contact your GP or local pharmacy to get a flu vaccine before Christmas. For more information visit: https://staywelldorset.nhs.uk/vaccinations/flu/
Keeping healthy out and about and stopping the spread of viruses
Here is a list of simple actions you can take to reduce the spread of respiratory infections, and protect those at highest risk:
-
Get vaccinated if you are eligible
-
If you are feeling unwell, try to stay at home
-
If you’re meeting people indoors, open a window for fresh air. Just keep in mind the room temperature and whether anyone might be sensitive to the cold
-
Practise good hygiene:
-
cough into your bent elbow, or use a tissue and dispose of it afterwards in the nearest bin
-
wash your hands frequently with warm water and soap
-
clean your surroundings often, especially areas that are touched frequently such as door handles
-
Wear a mask if you are unwell and need to go out
