The sandbanks area is busy today. BCP Council is providing some useful information for those intending to visit the area this weekend.

Cllr Rich Herrett, BCP Council Cabinet Member for Destination, Leisure and Commercial Operations, said:

“As expected, the beautiful weather and world-class beach are attracting many people to the Sandbanks area.

“We have a detailed traffic management strategy in place to help handle this influx of visitors.

“This includes monitoring the car parks and positioning staff to help manage the flow of traffic and using electronic signs on approach roads to advise drivers and direct them to alternatives.

“Sandbanks surface car park was full by 9am this morning and our staff are directing vehicles to alternative car parks.

“Visitors planning to head to the Sandbanks area should consider alternative travel options, like buses or bikes. Roads to and from the peninsula are likely to remain busy for the rest of the day.

“Ahead of the weekend we’ve worked closely with the event organisers of Sandpolo and SandFest, and our partner agencies, to ensure these events are safe and enjoyable for everyone.

“Those attending these events are encouraged to take public transport, via the Breezer 50 or 60 bus routes - from Bournemouth and Poole and aim to arrive as early as possible.

“We are also in regular contact with as Morebus, and the Sandbanks ferry company to provide additional support throughout the day.

“If you’re heading to Sandbanks, or to Studland via the ferry, please help protect our countryside by bringing a picnic, and be aware that the use of BBQs and campfires at Studland Bay are strictly prohibited by the National Trust due to the wildfire risk.”
