A proposed new housing scheme for Turlin Moor is progressing as BCP Council appoints project partners, Atkins and Savills to develop a masterplan and prepare a planning application for new housing on the site next to Blandford Road in Turlin Moor.

The council consulted on a development brief for the site in 2017 - which is now allocated for housing in the Poole Local Plan and has since been awarded £3.8m of funding from Homes England to take the proposal for up to 400 new homes forward.

The team are just about to start work and will:

  • carry out all the necessary additional background assessments such as further work on environmental issues, ground conditions and traffic
  • work with BCP Council, stakeholders and the community to develop a masterplan for the site
  • prepare and help to submit a planning application

Site assessments and preliminary design work will be carried out in the coming weeks. Then in September, there will be a pre-application consultation when the team will work with the local community and other stakeholders to explore options for the masterplan and choose a ‘preferred option’ for the site.

Councillor Kieron Wilson, Portfolio Holder for Housing for BCP Council, said: "I’m pleased to see that plans are progressing for the Turlin Moor development. This scheme is essential in providing more, much needed housing for residents. We are working closely with Atkins and Savills to carry out the works required to prepare the planning application to be submitted in the autumn. An important part of this phase will be to work closely with the local community and ward councillors to help us to shape the final proposed scheme that goes forward for consideration."

The planning application is due to be submitted in December and subject to planning permission work could start on site in June 2021.
