Poole Museum has partnered with renowned local hospitality brand, Salt Pig, who are operating the new café in Scaplen’s Court and Garden.
Located in the heart of Poole’s historic Old Town, Scaplen’s Court is a beautifully restored medieval building with a tranquil walled herb and physic garden, alfresco seating, and flexible indoor spaces for events and corporate hire.
The new café, ‘The Old Town Salt Pig’, is bringing a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and a menu offering the best of local produce.
Jaine Fitzpatrick, Interim Director, Poole Museum said:
“We’re thrilled to welcome Becky and James from the Salt Pig brand into the museum family – our values and ethos align perfectly. Their commitment to sustainability, community and quality mirrors our own ambitions for the newly redeveloped Scaplen’s Court, and Poole Museum as well.
“This partnership brings together heritage and hospitality in a way that will enhance the visitor experience and create a vibrant new destination at the heart of Poole’s Old Town, and we’re looking forward to seeing what tasty treats they can offer our visitors in the coming weeks.”
Founded in 2008 by former shepherd James Warren, The Salt Pig began as a farm shop and café in Wareham, with a mission to bring high-quality, locally sourced food to the community. Now a family run businesses with multiple locations, Salt Pig is known for its commitment to sustainable farming, conservation and reducing the carbon footprint of its produce.
Visitors to Scaplen’s Court can look forward to Salt Pig favourites including their renowned quiches, sausage rolls, and vibrant salads, alongside a tempting selection of sweet and savoury treats – all available to eat in, enjoy alfresco in the outside seating area, or take away.
Becky and James of Salt Pig said:
“We’re incredibly excited to be part of Scaplen Court’s historic opening, especially as it’s never been open to the public year-round before.
“It is such a unique and atmospheric space, steeped in history and stories, and we’re looking forward to creating a welcoming, accessible café that celebrates local food, community, and the beauty of this setting – as well as catering for the many events that are planned here.
“Many places talk about local, but we live and breathe it, and we can’t wait to serve visitors in this new space!”
The redevelopment of Scaplen’s Court and Garden, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and owned and operated by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council, has significantly enhanced accessibility, including the installation of a lift for the very first time. A new glass fronted entrance provides a stunning welcome into this historic building.
Scaplen’s Court is opening as part of a phased launch, hosting a vibrant programme of events and tours designed to engage all ages, with Poole Museum set to follow later this year.
