A leisure complex managed by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council has been recognised as the best in the south at a prestigious awards ceremony.

Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex (2RM) was awarded Community Leisure Centre of the Year in the 2023/24 Prestige Awards for south England.

These awards celebrate small and medium-sized businesses who have thrived in a competitive area and have proven their success.

This honour follows on from the complex being named as the south west Leisure Centre of the Year, for three years running.

In addition, 2RM has been shortlisted for two awards in the 2023 National Fitness Awards in the Best Membership Campaign category, and the Local Authority Leisure Centre of the Year, with the outcome being decided at the awards ceremony in November.

Simone Hudspith, Business Development Team Leader at Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex said:

"This award and the additional nominations are a great testament to the work of the whole Two Riversmeet team.

"Despite being honoured in the Prestige Awards previously, this year’s award holds the most pride for all of us as delivering the community-based element is what many in the team find most rewarding and it’s great that this has been recognised.

"The judges also commented on our social media interaction and the events that we run at short notice to help out in the community such as the women’s world cup football final which we held in our main hall earlier this year, to opening up our sports hall and providing last minute ‘inflatable fun days’ for schools that have been let down on their school trips.

"We strive to be a valuable community asset and will work hard for this accolade to continue."

The 2RM complex boasts a comprehensive gym, large swimming pool, a number of group classes, a trampoline academy, and 3G football pitches which have just been refurbished. The centre also runs holiday activities for children.

Councillor Millie Earl, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Connected Communities, BCP Council said:

"This is absolutely fantastic news for the 2 Riversmeet team who are all passionate about delivering such an excellent leisure facility here in Christchurch, contributing so much to the local community.

"I congratulate each and every one of them on this award and the nominations as well – they should all be incredibly proud!"
