Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council is asking residents to help shape The Learning Disability Big Plan – a new long‑term plan to support adults with learning disabilities across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
The draft plan has been developed with people with learning disabilities and their family carers through workshops, group sessions and informal conversations.
Amanda Frost, BCP resident with a learning disability, assistant manager of People First Forum and co‑chair of the BCP Learning Disability Partnership Board, said: “Being part of The Learning Disability Big Plan has been really important to me, making sure our voices are heard.
"An important part of my role is representing and working closely with people with learning disabilities and with BCP Council to make sure we have our say. It’s been great to see the council listen to our needs and take our ideas seriously.
"I’m really pleased we can now share the draft plan with everyone before it is officially approved, so more people can have their say.”
The Learning Disability Big Plan focuses on seven priorities people said matter most: where I live, staying healthy, having a good life, the right care and support, keeping safe, becoming an adult, and support for families.
Cllr David Brown, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “The Learning Disability Big Plan is about helping people with learning disabilities live the best lives they can. We want to hear from even more people, so the final plan reflects our communities.”
Zena Dighton, Director of Commissioning, said: “This survey is an important chance for people to help shape services that are inclusive and responsive.”
How to take part
The survey is open to people with learning disabilities, families, carers, support workers, professionals, organisations and anyone living or working in the BCP area.
The consultation runs from 17 February to 29 March 2026.
