From 6pm today (27 October) we will be carrying out essential maintenance on the A35 Christchurch bypass.
This will be done in two phases:
Phase 1: starts at 6pm on Monday 27 October ends at 6am on Monday 10 November and will see the eastbound side closed
Phase 2: starts at 6pm on Monday 10 November ends at 6am on Monday 17 November and will see the westbound side closed
At no stage will both sides be closed.
Councillor Andy Hadley, Portfolio Holder for highways maintenance at Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council, said: “We know that there is never a good time to close a busy road and we fully understand the inconvenience road closures can cause.
"This work will improve the resilience of one of our most-used roads, protecting it for years to come against the stresses of frequent braking and acceleration.
"The closure is not two way, it’s Eastbound for two weeks, then Westbound for a week, including re-opening on Mondays for market day.
"We have worked hard to make maximum use of the time that it is closed; teams will be carrying out other work such as essential repairs, utility works, safety improvement works, gully cleaning and clearing vegetation to minimise further disruption later.
"Our teams will be working day and night to complete this essential maintenance - using specialised materials known for their longevity.
"This type of work cannot be carried out in the busy summer months and can't usually be carried out in winter temperatures; so, the work could either be carried out now or closer to Easter.
"These improvements are vital to ensure the safety and condition of our road network, and we appreciate residents’ patience while we carry out this essential work."
