Beaches across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole have retained their Blue Flags, showcasing the area’s status as a leading coastal destination.

The awards reflect the consistently high standards delivered throughout the year by the Council’s seafront teams with the support of partners, businesses and community organisations who work collaboratively to maintain the area’s beaches.

This summer, six beaches have been awarded Keep Britain Tidy’s Blue Flag award, a globally respected mark of excellence for water quality, environmental management, safety and visitor services.

They are Sandbanks, Shore Road, Canford Cliffs, Durley Chine, Fisherman’s Walk and Highcliffe Beach.

Sandbanks beach has been awarded Blue Flag status in every year the awards have been running, with this marking its 39th year of accreditation.

Each of these beaches has also received a Seaside Award, nationally recognised proof that they offer a high-quality, well-managed and clean environment.

A further three have received Seaside Awards: Bournemouth, Boscombe and Avon Beach.

Avon Beach does not have a Blue Flag this year because of an administrative error.

Those who know and love Avon Beach will already know its appeal and its excellence goes far beyond any single accreditation, and locals and visitors have confidence in its exceptional standard of care and quality throughout the year.

Avon Beach’s well-maintained promenades, thoughtfully managed facilities and vibrant mix of cafés, kiosks and amenities – including a popular beach sauna and The Noisy Lobster restaurant – will continue to draw people to Christchurch Bay.

Cllr Richard Herrett, Portfolio Holder for Destination, Leisure, and Commercial Operations at BCP Council, said:

“These awards highlight the consistently high standards maintained across our coastline and the dedication of the teams who deliver them daily.

“While awards are important recognition, what matters most is the quality of the experience on our beaches, which we are committed to maintaining across all locations.

“I’d like to thank all of our stakeholders and partners that help maintain our coastline, and particularly the sponsors of the flags and awards that allow us to continue to showcase the work.

“We will continue to work with partners to ensure our coastline remains one of the best in the country.”

Together, these accolades demonstrate the strength and consistency of standards across the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole coastline, ensuring that residents and visitors can enjoy clean, safe and well-managed beaches throughout the summer.

The council has thanked its partners and sponsors, including local Business Improvement Districts, community organisations and businesses, whose continued support is vital in helping to secure and maintain these awards. This ongoing collaboration remains a key part of delivering an award-winning coastline.
