For families facing the uncertainty of housing instability, every week in a safe and settled home makes a profound difference.

BCP Council is marking an important milestone in its work to prevent homelessness, for the past year no local family has stayed in emergency bed and breakfast accommodation for longer than six weeks.

This achievement reflects the dedication of BCP Council’s housing teams and partners who work tirelessly to keep families together in safe, stable homes. While this is a moment to celebrate, there is still more to do to ensure everyone has the security they deserve.

Behind every statistic is a family, a story, and a team working to make a difference. For parents facing the fear of losing their home, even a short stay in emergency accommodation can be stressful and disruptive. That’s why the Council’s prevention work focuses on early support, helping families before they hit crisis point.

Over the past year, BCP Council Early Prevention teams have worked with 1500 households, providing practical help and reassurance when it matters most. From negotiating with landlords to offering financial assistance and advice, the goal is simple: to keep people in the homes they love.

Councillor Kieron Wilson, Cabinet Member for Housing and Regulatory Services, said: “This progress is a testament to our continued dedication to helping families find stability when they need it most. Every family deserves the security of a home, and while we’re proud of this progress, we know the work doesn’t stop here. We’ll continue to focus on prevention and partnership to make sure fewer people face homelessness.”

BCP Council remains committed to reducing homelessness and improving housing security for all residents. Our Homelessness Strategy consultation is open until the end of February, and we want to hear your views on how we can build on this progress.
