If you are between 40 and 74 years old, you may be eligible for a free NHS health check.
A health check can find out if you’re at higher risk of getting health problems such as:
- heart disease
- diabetes
- kidney disease
- stroke
Where to get an NHS health check
If you’re eligible, you should receive an invitation by text or letter from your GP every 5 years.
To check whether your GP or local pharmacy offers NHS health checks, check our provider directory.

If your GP does not offer the service, you may still be eligible through LiveWell Dorset which delivers free NHS health checks in the community including workplaces, community centres, family hubs, libraries and churches.

What will happen at your health check
You will be asked some simple questions about the health of your family and the lifestyle choices you make that may put your health at risk.
At the appointment, they will measure your:
- blood pressure
- cholesterol levels
- height
- weight
This will help to assess your risk of cardiovascular disease in the next 10 years.
After your check, you will be given personalised advice about how to reduce your risk and you may need further tests with your GP.
