Help to stop smoking

Giving up smoking can be tough, and it can take several attempts before you successfully quit for good. Stop smoking services are a free service to help you.

You can sign up to receive this support through your GP or in a pharmacy.

Pharmacy and GP services

The stop smoking support offer is a 12-week programme and can be face to face or virtual. It involves 4 check ins that are:

  • an enrolment and introduction where you set objectives
  • first check in to discuss cravings and withdrawal symptoms
  • second check in to discuss difficulties and progress
  • final check in to discuss options for continuing to use stop-smoking aids

Use our online service to see which pharmacies and GPs offer the service in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

LiveWell Dorset

LiveWell Dorset offer free advice and support to people who want to quit smoking. This includes free nicotine replacement therapy, Allen Carr's Easyway seminar, behavioural support and vape kits.

Smoking in pregnancy

Hospitals provide specialised services to help pregnant women stop smoking and you should speak to your midwife about quitting for the health of you and and your baby. The NHS has advice about stopping smoking in pregnancy and other support available to help you.

Vaping to stop smoking

Vaping is one of the most effective ways to quit smoking and is much less harmful to your health than smoking.

You can order a free vape kit from Swap 2 Stop to get started.

If you do vape, you should plan to quit once you know you will not return to smoking. The NHS website has information about how to quit vaping.
