Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA)

Our Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) is a report that we produced with Dorset Council and is a statutory requirement under NHS regulations. Our PNA:

  • describes current services available
  • identifies what pharmacy services our residents need
  • helps NHS England decide where and how to provide those services
  • supports checks and regulations to make sure pharmacy services are high quality and accessible to everyone
  • highlights any gaps or areas for improvement

Responsibility for producing our PNA

Our PNA was produced by:

  • Dorset Health and Wellbeing Board
  • BCP Health and Wellbeing Board

Both health and wellbeing boards are legally responsible for producing the PNA and agreed the development of a single joint PNA covering both councils. Under the Health and Social Care Act they can work together to carry out this duty.

Consultation on the draft PNA

We held a consultation on our draft PNA from 10 June 2025 to 14 August 2025.
