WellComm
All group providers have a WellComm toolkit available for their use. Childminders can borrow a toolkit from their early years and childcare advisor.
How the toolkit is used
All staff with key person responsibilities use the WellComm toolkit with their children.
All children should be screened termly so their communication and language development can be monitored and any common themes used as part of the whole setting planning. This will also help ensure any children that are having difficulties are identified swiftly for support to be put in place.
Any children that need support should be regularly re-screened at least once every half term, with plans put in place to support.
Consequently, individual children will get prompt intervention using the Big Book of Ideas to develop next steps. An Individual Play Plan (IPP) can be used if necessary.
The screening results are shared with:
- parents, to provide a consistent approach between the home and the setting
- other professionals to evidence children's development for example for Come Talk with Me or Speech and Language Therapists
WellComm early years training
GL Assessment have developed a bespoke recorded training package for early years practitioners using the WellComm toolkit. This is suitable for those using the paper score sheets and those using the WellComm digital reporting tool.
