LV= KidZone Bournemouth summer beach safety scheme

LV= KidZone is a free beach safety scheme. It helps reunite lost children and vulnerable adults with their families during the busy summer months.

The scheme runs from 1 July to 1 September 2026. It is sponsored by LV= and delivered in partnership with BCP Council, RNLI and Dorset Police.

Since 2007, the team has:

  • given out almost 1 million wristbands
  • reunited more than 3,000 lost children and vulnerable adults with their families

How LV= KidZone works

The principles of the LV= KidZone are to stay in touch, stay together and stay safe. To do this, you can:

  • collect a free wristband from the KidZone team, seafront staff or RNLI lifeguard towers
  • write a parent or guardian’s mobile number on the wristband
  • agree a meeting point, for example an RNLI lifeguard tower
  • stay close and supervise children near the sea

Teach your child what to do if they get lost

You can teach your child the acronym ‘STOP’ so they know what to do if they get lost on the beach. 'STOP' stands for:

  • stay where you are
  • tell a uniformed KidZone staff member (wearing a blue shirt)
  • observe your surroundings and look for the person you were with
  • pop to the nearest RNLI lifeguard tower or a Seafront member of staff, usually in a pink shirt

Remember what to do if you lose or find a child

If you lose your child or find a child that is lost, you can remember the acronym 'TRIP'. 'TRIP' stands for:

  • tell a member of staff (KidZone, seafront or lifeguard teams)
  • remain calm and stay with staff while they help
  • identify the child (a photo can help)
  • please tell staff if you find your child so they can stop the search
