Extra care housing for adults
If you need care but want to live as independently as possible, extra care housing could be right for you.
You have your own home, with care and support available when you need it. This is different from a care home, where care is provided in a shared setting.
Extra care housing gives you privacy, security and access to 24-hour support.

- stay with a partner or friend if you choose
- manage your own money
- feel safe with welfare checks and a call monitoring system
Each scheme has a manager and care staff on site to support you.

Some of our housing options are suitable for any adults over 18, while others are designed for older adults aged 55 and above.

Shaftesbury Court on Wimborne Road supports people with a physical or sensory disability.
Costs and charges
The tenants are responsible for paying all relevant charges as listed:
- rent, service charges and utilities
- support charge, including community alarm and care lines
- the cost of any support with personal care

How to apply
You can apply for extra care housing if you:
- are aged 18 or over, or 55 or over depending on the scheme
- are on the housing register
- are finding it hard to manage physically or mentally, or have a long-term condition
- live in a home that cannot be adapted to meet your needs
- live in a care home, or are thinking about moving into one, but would prefer to stay independent with support
- cannot afford a private scheme
