Street naming and numbering policy

The street naming and numbering policy sets out how we manage the naming of streets and numbering of properties to ensure clarity, consistency, and accuracy across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. This supports efficient delivery of services, emergency response, and legal transactions.

This policy applies to all individuals and organisations representing BCP Council, as well as all public highway infrastructure managed by the council.

The 5 objectives of the strategy are:

  1. Unite partner agencies to improve outcomes for children and young people at risk of child neglect.
  2. Raise awareness and recognition of child neglect from prenatal to adolescent stages.
  3. Understand causes of child neglect and support families with early help strategies to prevent it.
  4. Enhance intervention and services to achieve better, lasting outcomes for families.
  5. Include children, young people, and families' perspectives on child neglect.

This policy also outlines information about:

  • street naming and numbering principles
  • property naming rules
  • the process for altering street names
