Best Value Notice

On 3 August 2023 we were issued with a Best Value Notice by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) as a result of an external assurance review.

DLUHC (now Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government) works with local authorities of concern to better understand their organisational challenges and to support their locally-led improvement journeys.

A Best Value Notice is the start of a process that involves us sharing our plans to improve our services directly with government. They will set clear goals that we need to achieve to assure them that we are making continuous improvement.

We welcomed DLUHC’s report and notice. DLUHC recognised its findings corresponded to our own understanding of the challenges we faced and we took proactive steps to act on its recommendations.

A year on, the Best Value Notice was removed as government recognised the significant progress we had made. We continue making continuous improvements and engaging with government on our approach.
