Local residents and frequent users of Charminster Road in Bournemouth will soon be benefitting from a smoother, quieter road surface following the completion of resurfacing works which start on Tuesday 6 April and are due to take 12 days. Works have been scheduled over the Easter holiday period whilst traffic levels around local schools are lower than normal.
To complete these works, Charminster Road (B3063) will be closed to through traffic from the junction of Charminster Avenue up to the Broadway roundabout in a series of sequential phases which will be in effect from 7am to 7pm Monday - Friday. The main signed diversion route will be along Castle Lane West (A3060), Wessex Way (A338) and Richmond Park Road (A3049).
In a continuation of efforts to coordinate works with local utility companies, BCP Council has planned this work so that a utility contractor can make use of the road closure to construct a trench crossing on the Broadway roundabout. This will avoid the need to close the road again at a later date.
Gary Powell, Head of Traffic Management for BCP Council, said; “Improving roads and infrastructure in our area is a key commitment of BCP council and we strive to carry out road schemes with minimal disruption where possible.
“We apologise to residents and road users for any inconvenience caused and our appreciation goes out to you for your patience.”
Emergency services, local residents and businesses are being contacted and advance warning signs and variable message signage are in place. Refuse collection days will be unchanged, although collection times may vary. Bus routes will require alteration so passengers are advised to contact operators for details.
These works are being funded by the Department for Transport via the £2.9 million Pothole Fund. They follow the successful completion of similar resurfacing projects in Ashley Road and Poole Road.
