Overnight and weekend surfacing works required as part of Wallisdown corridor improvement scheme

The latest in a series of major infrastructure improvements in the Wallisdown area will soon be complete following upcoming overnight and weekend surfacing works.

Ongoing improvements to the Wallisdown area will encourage more people to choose healthier and environmentally friendly travel options by providing safer walking and cycling routes and better public transport facilities.

The latest phase is focused on improving the western end of Wallisdown Road. The council will be laying a new road surface over several stages. This will encourage more sustainable journeys, enhance safety and improve the area for all road users. Works will take place at the weekends and overnight, to minimise the impact on residents and businesses.

  • East of Benbow Crescent to Lyon Road (Discovery Court entrance) - Closed for the entire weekend from 7am Saturday 26 June to 6pm Sunday 27 June.
  • Lyon Road (Discovery Court entrance) to Leyland Road - 3 overnight closures operational from 7pm to 6am on 29, 30 June and 1 July.
  • Leyland Road to Mountbatten Roundabout - Closed for the entire weekend 7am Saturday 3 July to 6pm Sunday 4 July.
  • Benbow Crescent west junction, to Lyon Road (Discovery Court entrance), and the Leyland Road junction - will be closed overnight from 7pm to 6am on 1 July.

Councillor Mike Greene, BCP Council Portfolio Holder for Transport and Sustainability, said:

“I am pleased to announce that we are approaching the end of this current phase of improvements. For safety reasons, we need to introduce a number of closures to enable these surfacing works to take place and I encourage you to plan ahead to avoid any delays.

“The Wallisdown area remains the focus of plans to improve sustainable transport links between our towns. This will support local economic recovery and reduce journey times in the long term, while also contributing positively towards our wider transforming travel initiative and declared Climate and Ecological emergency.’’
