Ambitious plans to transform and pedestrianise parts of Lansdowne will be considered by BCP Council’s Cabinet Members on 30 September 2019.
Holdenhurst Road and Lansdowne Roundabout will be discussed as potential areas that could be the focus for major investment which will transform the public realm and create new spaces for people to enjoy.
New urban areas for social interaction such as, outdoor meeting space for businesses, student break out areas, as well as new performance platforms where festivals and events can take place all feature as part of the plans.
Councillor Mark Howell, Cabinet Member for Regeneration & Culture, BCP Council, said; “Creating a sense of place and ensuring the area continues to attract investment is essential to Lansdowne.
“These proposals will provide a much-needed boost to the investment already underway – not only to support the thriving population of residents, workers and students but also to make this a destination for people to enjoy when visiting Bournemouth.
“As part of the vision we want to attract a mix of makers, operators, innovators and start-ups, providing them with the opportunity to expand their existing offer or even try something a little different.
“As well as creating and sustaining new jobs for the people of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole these proposals are also about restoring and improving connectivity for pedestrians.”
With £150 million investment already underway at Lansdowne, and an additional £8.5million government funding secured via the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership’s Local Growth Fund, BCP Council has been working with key stakeholders to transform the infrastructure in the area.
As part of the report Cabinet Members will be asked to approve the continuation of the plans including the launch of a public consultation allowing residents, local businesses and commuters the opportunity to have their say on the proposals.
Investigatory works are likely to start later this year with a full programme of works planned from next year.
