Improving safety and enhancing sustainable travel connectivity, the major infrastructure investment scheme at Dunyeats Road has now been completed.
Following the commencement of works on 17 August 2019, the scheme has seen the existing footway on the north side of Dunyeats Road widened and resurfaced to provide a new shared pedestrian and cycle route. In addition to these works, three new pedestrian crossings have been installed near to the junctions of Station Approach, Tudor Road and Water Tower Road.
Giving priority to pedestrians and cyclists, improvements to the junctions with Tudor Road, Lower Golf Links Road, Upper Golf Links Road and Water Tower Road have been made. Drivers are encouraged to be vigilant of these changes, and to exercise caution by slowing down especially during school times. Pedestrian access to Broadstone Middle School has been enlarged and the accesses to Broadstone Cemetery have also been upgraded.
Councillor Andy Hadley, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Infrastructure at BCP Council, said:
"With safer cycle and pedestrian routes now in operation, we hope that parents and guardians will encourage their children to choose healthier forms of travel to Broadstone First School, Broadstone Middle School and Poole Grammar School. This will ensure that students arrive for lessons more relaxed and ready to learn, enhancing their overall learning experience.’’
"By using the new facilities young people will be given a greater confidence in use of active travel which will stand them in good stead for the rest of their life. Residents should find that by encouraging sustainable travel, we will be contributing towards reducing congestion and pollution in their area, and enabling parents to simplify their own travel.

Over the last few weeks repairs to kerbs, footways and drains have been carried out. Furthermore, adjustments have been made to street lighting, existing bus stops improved, the bus stop adjacent to Broadstone First School has been relocated and a new bus stop installed on the south side of the road between Ashwood Drive and Gravel Hill. The whole length of Dunyeats Road has been resurfaced.
