Following routine maintenance works at Bath Road an urgent inspection is required to assess the condition of the road structure adjacent to Pavilion.

The road will be closed to eastbound traffic whilst this investigatory work is undertaken. Diversion routes are in place to ensure no eastbound traffic on Bath Road across the Pier flyover. Westbound traffic is being maintained. These works are essential to ensure the safety of road users and those carrying out the investigation.

Gary Powell, Head of Highways & Transportation, BCP Council, said, "During a routine highway inspection our teams detected some issues with the road structure. This has temporarily been made safe by use of a metal plate on the road. To ensure the safety of the travelling public an urgent investigation is required to establish the extent of the problem.

"It’s unfortunate this has happened ahead of the bank holiday weekend and we are doing all we can to manage traffic flows."

A signposted diversion will be in place and the bus operators and emergency services have been informed.

Access to Bath Road North and South car parks will be maintained as well as access to the BIC and businesses to the west of the Pier flyover.

A further update will be provided once the inspection work is complete.
