‘We are here for you’ is the message from BCP Council to residents who care for others, ahead of Carers Week 2022.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to highlight the contribution unpaid carers make to communities. This year it takes place between 6 – 12 June.

During Carers Week, the BCP Council Carer Support Service (CRISP), will be offering support to anyone who needs it, via three drop-in events at local libraries. A member of the team will be available to answer questions and give information about the help available:

On Monday 6 June the team are at Bournemouth Library, from 10am to 4pm.

On Wednesday 8 June they visit Christchurch Library, from 10am to 4pm.

On Friday 10 June they round off the week at Rossmore Library, from 10am to 4pm.

Councillor Karen Rampton, Portfolio Holder for People and Homes said; "Unpaid carers make vital and often unseen contributions to the lives of others. This Carers Week is a chance for us to reach out and ensure they feel active and important members of our vibrant communities. I would urge every person who cares for someone – even if they don’t think of themselves as a ‘carer’ – to visit one of the library events for a chat about their wellbeing or contact us and seek support if they need it."

As part of a ‘Carers Week Giveaway’ carers registered with CRISP’s Carers Information Service on 24 May this year were entered into a prize draw. The top prize is a holiday in one of the exclusive Bournemouth Beach Lodges.

There are two runners up prizes; a complimentary beach hut rental or ticket to a Bournemouth Air Festival event at the Cumberland Hotel. Winners will be revealed at the beginning of Carers Week, with the prizes providing invaluable respite or a wonderful day out for the randomly selected carers.

Councillor Laurence Fear, Lead Member for Wellbeing said; "Carers Week gives us a priceless opportunity to show our appreciation and initiate important conversations with many carers across the area; assuring them that they are visible, valued and we are always here to support them. I look forward to revealing the name of the carer who will get to enjoy a well-earned break at one of our famous Bournemouth beach lodges."

Carers who cannot get to one of the library events and are caring for someone who lives in Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole can contact the CRISP Carer Support Service on 01202 128787 or email carersupport@bcpcouncil.gov.uk. They can also visit crispweb.org for more information.
