Neighbourhood improvement schemes

Neighbourhood improvement schemes are projects that benefit a community.

The schemes often involve capital investment and would involve local consultation with residents.

Neighbourhood Improvements for Communities and Estates (NICE Scheme)

We know that many tenants and leaseholders want to be involved in helping to improve their neighbourhoods. To help and encourage this, we have created the NICE Scheme.

Through the NICE Scheme, tenants and leaseholders can apply directly to us for funding for improvements in your communities. Each year we set aside £18,000 from the Estates budget for NICE applications and you can apply for a maximum of £3,000 per application for improvements.

All improvements done through the NICE Scheme will be made on housing land, so they become our property.

Examples of improvements that will be considered under the scheme are:

  • benches
  • seating areas
  • improvements to security and lighting
  • improving shared gardens and open spaces
