The Charter Mayor of Poole is Councillor Jo Clements.

Jo moved to Poole from London 21 years ago to bring her 2 children up in a clean and safe environment. As a regular visitor, she fell in love with the beautiful town of Poole and all it has to offer especially for young families and is now so proud to call it her home.

She gained an Honours Degree in Geography as a Social Science at Westminster University, during which she developed a passion for environmental and economic geography with a particular interest in tourism development.

Jo has had a full and varied career, including the role of Mayor and Sheriff’s PA at the Borough of Poole and is quite possibly the first ex Civic PA to become Mayor of Poole.

Her career in local politics began in 2010 when she was elected as a Liberal Democrat councillor in the Newtown & Heatherlands Ward By-Election and was then re-elected in the full Elections in 2011. In 2014, Jo was elected the 446thSheriff of Poole.

Following an 8-year break from local politics, Jo was re-elected in May 2023 and is now deeply honoured to be the 775thMayor of Poole.

During her Mayoral year, Jo is committed to upholding the ancient role of Mayor and promoting Poole’s heritage, especially among youth groups and schools. She hopes to get involved in many community events and projects, and to give her support wherever possible.

Jo cares deeply about mental health and wellbeing and has also trained as a counsellor, and has pledged her support during the coming municipal year to the charity Dorset Mind.
