Disabled toilets, changing places and RADAR keys

Many of our public toilets have a separate disabled toilet. Some of these are "Changing Places" toilets, which have extra features such as:

  • extra room for chairs and equipment, and up to 2 carers
  • a hoist
  • an adult changing bench
  • a toilet in the centre so you can move around it
  • a shower attachment in some locations

Some disabled toilets need a RADAR key to open.

RADAR keys

RADAR keys give access to over 9000 locked public toilets for disabled people around the country. You can buy one for £5 if you have a permanent disability. RADAR keys can be bought from Tourist Information Centres or on the RADAR website

Who can get a RADAR key

Only people with a permanent disability can buy and use a RADAR key, and you will need to have proof of your disability to buy one. Proof might include:

  • a Blue Badge for parking
  • a letter from a doctor
  • an official letter about the payment of your Disability Living Allowance or other disability benefits
