About Lets Make Communication Count

The Early Years Team at BCP Council are delighted to offer a range of support and training to Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole providers to help you to support children’s communication language and literacy skills. The project is running from summer 2021 and expected to finish by 2026.

Within this time our vision is:

  • for every early years provider, including childminders, to have access to, and effectively use, the WellComm Toolkit to screen every child in order to raise the levels of development for communication, language and literacy
  • for every early years provider to fully commit to opportunities for continual professional development to widen their knowledge and skills around supporting children's communication, language and literacy, for example undertaking Elklan Training and becoming Communication Friendly Settings (CFSe), as well as participate in and attend relevant networks
  • for trained practitioners to work in partnership with parents and other professionals, focusing on improving children's communication, language and literacy, providing early intervention and referring for further support from relevant services
  • for trained practitioners to lead on promoting children’s communication, language and literacy in their setting and share their knowledge and skills to advise and support other providers, including auditing others to achieve the Communication Friendly Settings (CFSe) Award.
