Overview
Anyone in the Boscombe and Lansdowne areas can make use of our free public Wi-Fi service, funded by the government's Towns Fund programme.
To access the service, choose "BCPCouncil Smart Place free WiFi" on your device when you are in one of the covered locations.
You don't need to register, and we do not keep any of your data. You will need to accept the terms and conditions before you can connect. No password is required to access the Wi-Fi.
Our free Wi-Fi is mainly for use outdoors, although sometimes the signal will reach indoors. You cannot use our network to repeat the signal indoors to multiple devices, or reroute the signal.

Wi-Fi speed
The minimum speed in normal circumstances should be 15 Mbps download. Outside of peak use times the speed can go as high as 300 Mbps.
We sometimes cap the speed to 10Mbps download during peak times at certain locations, such as Boscombe beach. This is so we can guarantee a connection for all who want to use the service in the area.
Wi-Fi security
Our secure Wi-Fi does not allow for peer-to-peer connections, which avoids potential harm between one user and another. Potentially risky content is filtered and we use SafeDNS to block the majority of unsafe sites. We can also add or remove sites ourselves.
The technology filters out unwanted or inappropriate information and websites such as:
- pornography
- violence
- hate or racism
- weapons
- alcohol
- drugs
- gambling
The database blocks billions of webpages and is constantly growing.
Our network features several layers of security in line with National Cyber Security Centre guidance.
