Health and safety for businesses

Our Health and Safety Service is delivered by the Regulatory Services Team.

The team provide guidance and advice to businesses and members of the public and investigate serious complaints and accidents in your workplace.

Health and Safety Enforcement

The Responsibility for enforcing health and safety is split between the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Council.

We are responsible for enforcing health and safety regulations in:

  • offices
  • shops
  • warehouses
  • hotels
  • restaurants
  • bars
  • nightclubs
  • hairdressers
  • tattooists
  • beauty salons
  • care homes
  • nurseries.

The HSE deal with businesses such as:

  • factories
  • building sites
  • fairgrounds
  • farms
  • schools
  • railways.

Making a complaint

We carry out an investigation where serious or significant personal injury is likely. This are prioritised according to those who are most at risk. If you do suspect a breach or unsafe working conditions, you should contact us.
