How to attend a ceremony

Once you have received your invitation from the Home Office please email us to book your ceremony. This must be done within 3 months. Please include your full name, address contact telephone number and Home Office reference number on your email

At the ceremony

The ceremony is led by a deputy superintendent registrar from our registration service. It lasts for about 30 minutes.

You will have the choice to either swear or affirm the oath of allegiance and then you will make a pledge to promise to respect the rights, freedoms and laws of the United Kingdom.

What you need to have ready

You will need to bring:

  • the Home Office ceremony invitation email or letter clearly showing your name and home office reference number
  • photo ID (either a current passport, residence permit or driving licence).

Attending a ceremony at Bournemouth Civic Centre or Poole Guildhall

It is important that you arrive no later than 10 minutes before your ceremony start time, as there is some administrative work to be done before the ceremony can go ahead. If you arrive later, you will not be able to attend the ceremony and it will be necessary to reschedule your ceremony for a later date.

Personal/private ceremonies

If you prefer, you can arrange for a personal/private ceremony, which can be held in either Bournemouth Civic Centre or The Guildhall Poole.

  •  Monday to Friday at a cost of £165
