Local plan news and updates

We consulted on the draft BCP Local Plan from 20 March to 1pm on 3 May 2024. We are now collating the feedback. We will publish all the consultation responses on the website by the end of June 2024 when we expect to submit the Draft Local Plan to the Planning Inspectorate for examination. The Local Plan examination is expected to take around 12 months. If the Local Plan is found to be sound by the Inspector, we can adopt the BCP Local Plan in 2025.

Throughout the process of preparing the Local Plan we want to engage with a wide range of local people, businesses and community groups. So that we can obtain the widest possible agreement on the development of planning policies, and the allocation of sites to meet future identified development needs.

The resulting plan needs to ensure that the sustainable development of the area can be achieved in a way that maintains and improves the

  • health and well-being of local people
  • carefully balances the need for new homes, employment opportunities and other supporting development

As well as protecting of important heathland, harbour and coastal habitats, green spaces and unique heritage assets.
