Local people will be given the opportunity to shape Lansdowne’s unique cultural offering during a public consultation and graphic arts display held during this year’s Arts by the Sea Festival.
Commissioned by BCP Council and delivered by public space, architecture and public art specialists, Dallas Pierce Quintero (DPQ), the #YourLansdowne project will be launching with three eye-catching beach huts temporarily installed at Lansdowne Roundabout.
The huts will be open from Wednesday 30 September to Sunday 4 October, 10am to 1pm during the Arts by the Sea Festival. Situated at the huts, DPQ will be engaging passers-by and encouraging everyone to submit feedback on what they want to see culturally, visually and artistically at Lansdowne. This will inform the council’s evolving cultural strategy and influence the delivery of future public space improvements and art installations in the area.
Well known for their large scale murals and displays, local artists from Paintshop Studios will be adorning the huts in graphics which follow the same popular designs seen in numerous town centre locations.
Councillor Mark Howell, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Regeneration and Economy at BCP Council, said:
"A gateway to the town, with an innovative business district and established links to higher education, Lansdowne has developed its own unique cultural identity. We now want to ensure this is given the opportunity to further grow and be complemented within our future plans for the area. If you live, work or study in Lansdowne, we want you to get creative, share your views and ultimately have a say in shaping the look and feel of the area.’’
People will be invited to submit their feedback via two routes. This will include in person using a QR code on the beach huts that will link to an online questionnaire. The consultation and questionnaire will also be hosted on the Arts by the Sea Festival website.
