Local residents, staff and parents are invited to attend two drop-in information events being held at Hillbourne School in Poole to view exciting plans for a new school and housing development being proposed on the site of the existing buildings.

On display will be the proposed plans and detailed designs for a new school building and preschool facilities. A planning application is due to be submitted for this part of the scheme at the end of September 2019.

Also, on show will be early concepts for the housing element of the development. A planning application for this will be submitted later in the year.

At the drop in sessions, BCP Council’s project team, architects and housing officers will be on hand to answer questions from the public and there will be the opportunity to put forward comments and suggestions.

Councillor Sandra Moore, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said:

"I hope as many people as possible will find the time to come along and view for themselves what we are hoping to create. The community in this part of Poole deserves a new school fit for the future and I am delighted to see this scheme progressing well. This approach is considered to be the best value for money option, whilst being least disruptive to the school which can continue to operate at its two current locations whilst work progresses."

The proposed new school will be of a traditional steel construction and once complete, the housing will be developed in a phased approach. The exact number of homes and tenure are yet to be confirmed as it is subject to planning permission.

The receipts from the sale/development of the land will fund the construction of the new school.

Councillor Kieron Wilson, Cabinet Member for Housing, said:

"By taking a holistic approach to the site and providing a brand new housing development of around 100 homes, we are able to deliver not only the school in a cost effective way but provide much needed homes for the local community. I am pleased to support this fantastic project."

The drop-in events take place at the school in Kitchener Crescent on:

  • Tuesday 17 Sept 2.30pm – 4.30pm
  • Thursday 19 Sept 6pm – 8pm

The development will include a new school in the centre of the existing site on Kitchener Crescent and new homes either side.

The site will also accommodate pre-school attached to the new school building and there are plans for a positive activity offer for young people in the local area to be run from the site. The plans for the school include a purpose-built sports pitch and a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA).
