11 new eco-friendly Council apartments for local people waiting on the housing register are planned for the site at St Stephen’s Road, Bournemouth.

Councillors, at the next Cabinet meeting (29 July 2020) will be asked to consider approval for the scheme to progress and for construction to get underway in November 2020.

The development would consist of:

Four x 2-bed apartments

Seven x 1 bed-apartment

The development would be built to high energy efficiency ‘Passiv Haus’ standards which means that the properties will reduce energy demand by up to 90% compared to a building complying to current UK building regulations. The property will have solar panels and ground source heat pump heating systems as well as some off-road parking for residents.

Councillor Kieron Wilson, Portfolio Holder for Housing, said:

"We are under continued pressure to provide more affordable and well managed accommodation for local people. So I am really pleased that we are in a position to progress the site at Stephen’s Road with 11 new fantastic apartments which will be let at social rent levels. This development will also be built to Passiv-Haus standards, in line with the council’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral, increase energy efficiency and protecting our environment for future generations."

If approved by Cabinet work on site would begin in November 2020 and be complete in Spring 2022. The Council’s in-house Housing Development Team would be responsible for the construction of the new scheme.

The report will go to Overview and Scrutiny Board meeting on 20 July before Cabinet.
