All those living and working in Throop and Holdenhurst, and the surrounding area, are being invited to give their views on recommendations to extend the Holdenhurst Parish to include Throop, and create a village council.
Following the receipt of a petition on 12 July 2019, BCP Council’s Cabinet decided that a Community Governance Review should take place.
The petition sought the creation of a new parish of Throop and Holdenhurst to include unparished parts of Throop and the existing village parish of Holdenhurst, and the establishment of a new parish council.
The aim of the review is to bring about improved and stronger community engagement, more cohesive communities, better local democracy and more effective and convenient delivery of local services; ensuring residents are treated equitably and fairly.
A formal consultation period, inviting initial submissions, took place from 15 July to 1 September 2019.
BCP Council created a Community Governance Review Task and Finish Group to oversee the review and to consider submissions received during the initial consultation phase. The Task and Finish Group has been mindful of the initial submissions and balanced these against the council’s wider requirements and duties to ensure that community governance within the area under review reflects the identities and interests of the community in that area; and is effective and convenient.
The consultation closes on Friday 7 February 2020. Following this, the Task and Finish Group will consider the results of the consultation and make recommendations to Cabinet on 18 March 2020.
